For the recent Jamnesty-goer, it’d be easy to assume that due to the sheer numbers in attendance Belgrave has always been the home of Leeds’ favourite bi-annual human rights night!

FIRST RESERVES
REBELLO
THE QUIET FIVE
MONDO BIZARRE
But it has not always been so; the first edition of our ever-successful fundraising event was at Hyde Park student favourite Brudenell Social Club. However while we all love the Brude for its low-key vibes and community atmosphere it became clear that we were to outgrow the venue pretty quickly!
Enter Jamnesty 2.0 - back by popular demand, we were on the hunt for somewhere to make the next step up, and given the green light (shoutout to Alice at Belgrave!) the partnership between LUU Amnesty International and Belgrave Music Hall was born. Not only were we now able to accommodate more of our fab crowd, but acts now had the chance to perform on a stage played by the likes of Jorja Smith and Loyle Carner.
Headlined by popular Leeds jazz collective Mondo Bizarre, Jamnesty 2.0 was a hit! The quality of the performances was next-level, from Mondo’s lively and original repertoire to The Quiet Five’s silky-smooth rendition of Tom Misch and Poppy Ajudha’s Disco Yes. Not only did we smash all our fundraising records but the second Jamnesty truly did cement its place as a staple on the Leeds student events calendar.
Since then, Belgrave has become to Jamnesty what Gavin is to Stacey or Leslie Knope is to Pawnee, Indiana, with only more to come! Keep an eye out for more events in the Jamnesty series coming your way….
