The world is waking up to the impending environmental impact climate change is having on our planet and the blame that we all need to shoulder. However, the direct correlation between the climate crisis and human rights is often overlooked as it is not understood.
What about our right to life?
Well a planet that cannot sustain life means there are no humans and therefore no human rights. We have already seen the undeniable extreme weather conditions from heatwaves to tsunamis that have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide, but The World Health Organisation that in the next 30 years, climate change will be responsible for ¼ of a million lives lost every year.
Other basic human rights including health and housing, something we often take for granted in the UK, are things that individuals in underdeveloped areas still live without. The impact extreme weather will have on food production will directly affect those already in food poverty and we still owe neglected areas the opportunity to use resources and fuels to provide themselves with the infrastructure we take for granted everyday.
This campaign is something we can act on locally and educated ourselves on in an international context, and we hope you’ll join us and stand up for what you stand on!
